ABOUT ME

I received my PhD in Economics from the University of Tennessee in 2015. I work in two main fields: Environmental Economics and Behavioral/Experimental Economics.

On environmental econ: I enjoy studying the emissions decisions of firms. If you look at any firm-level dataset, some firms are clean and some firms are dirty even within the same closely related industry. Why?

On behavior economics: I like to study how social influences impact decision making. In one vein of study, I look at how individuals make risky decisions in social settings. Are they influenced by their peers? In another, I look at how feedback impacts effort and performance when individuals are made aware of their peers' performances.

In addition to research, I love being in the classroom. I strive to find new ways to help students learn. I am a firm believer in experiential learning. Some of my research focuses on designing assignments that put students in the role of economic decision makers to teach economic theory, including my publication in the Journal of Economic Education which teaches rent seeking in the context of NCAA athlete recruitment. Another example is an assignment that pairs upper-level economics students with legal studies students, pitting economics students as expert witnesses is a mock appellate court hearing.

When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with my wife, Kimberly (a marketing lecturer at Northern Kentucky University), my two sons, and my Yorkies named Milly and Milo.
